Here is my statement
I would like to express a number of points with regard to the recent referendum conducted by the ruling military regime.
1. The referendum was conducted in a climate of fear and intimidation, not to an international standard, with disinformation and no independent monitoring to verify the result. While I would like to express my respect for the people willing to vote in this environment I cannot accept the undemocratic constitution the ruling regime now intends to inflict on the Thai people.
2. According to the road map of the ruling military regime it will now take 8 months to make the organic laws (whatever they may be) and then 4 months preparing for the general election. This means at a minimum another year of military dictatorship in Thailand.
3. I hope that you will continue to engage with the current regime to encourage them to return the country to democracy and uphold the basic international standards of human rights. We fully agree with the assertion that building a democratic future should be entirely an inclusive process for the Thai people to work together but alas the majority of Thai people have been disenfranchised and excluded from determining their own future direction.
Thank you very much for your time and attention,
Respectfully
Jaran Ditapichai
